Sadly, Jon is retiring. Happily, he's handed the reins to Janet Matlock. She's knowledgeable, enthusiastic and great fun. Despite having lived here for years, we learned a ton. The two hours flew by too quickly. This will be a "must do" whenever we have company not fortunate to live here.

We thoroughly enjoyed Jon's thorough and interesting walking tour through Beaufort. Jon's personality and enthusiasm bring the history of Beaufort alive by his ability to describe a house we are looking at not only by its architecture but by its former inhabitants, the events that occurred there, and their significance before, during, and after the Civil War. We heartily recommend taking the tour and living Beaufort's history through his eyes.

John's tour was absolutely the finest that I have enjoyed in the U.S., and I've been on many tours of New Orleans, Charleston, Savannah and San Francisco. John is very knowledgeable, engaged and passionate about the history of Beaufort - delivered with a naturalist's keen love for the beauty abounding here, and a humanist's heart and soul for all who lived, loved and died here under happy - and tragic - circumstances.Enjoyed it thoroughly, John!

We spent two days in Beaufort in late April 2013 and stayed at the Rhett House Inn. They arranged a history tour for us and asked if we wanted a carriage tour or a walking tour. We are happy we chose the walking tour as it was led by Jon. Jon added so much to the sights by sharing his vast knowledge about the area and the homes we saw. We recommend him highly!

Without a doubt a tour that will make you never want to leave Beaufort and will pale any tour you've ever taken. Jon's knowledge and love of Beaufort is intoxicating!

Mr. Sharp really made history come alive! We learned many things. The favorite parts of our field trip were seeing all the beautiful houses, seeing and learning about the many different flowers and trees. We liked the Nine Steps to Nowhere and the "King Cotton" house. We learned about Robert Smalls in our class this year, but you gave us a lot of information about Robert Smalls that we didn't know, but will remember forever!

I learned many things about Beaufort that I did not already know. A lot of our history is found in Beaufort. My favorite part about our field trip was seeing all the huge houses that were used as hospitals during the Civil War.

I learned a lot from your tour. My favorite part was hearing the story about Robert Smalls right in front of his house. Thank you for making history come alive!

Recently visited Beaufort and had the pleasure of Jon's tour. Two hours of unbridled enthusiasm, American history, local lore, and a theatrical flair that enhanced the whole. When in Beaufort, a tour not to be missed.
